Dobbs on Calderon's Standing Ovation
May-21-2010
What a spectacle on the House floor. Not only did Mexican President Calderon criticize our laws in our Congress, but every Democrat decided to endorse his comments by giving him a standing ovation. Despicable.
Did you ever think you'd see the day when a foreign leader comes to address our Congress on our soil and criticize our laws?! But that's to be expected from Mexican President Felipe Calderon. The truly absurd part - the man received a standing ovation from almost every Democrat in Congress, including Attorney General Eric Holder. How's that for love of country?!
Attorney General Eric Holder hasn't even read the Arizona anti-illegal immigration law for himself. He admitted to a Congressional committee last week that he had yet to even be briefed on the 10-page law. And yet he's giving a standing ovation to a foreign leader speaking before our Congress and making a mockery of our laws?
Calderon said "I am convinced that a comprehensive immigration reform is also crucial to securing our common border. However, I strongly disagree with your recently adopted law in Arizona. It is a law -- it is a law that not only ignores a reality that cannot be erased by decree, but also introduce a terrible idea using racial profiling as a basis for law enforcement, and that is why I agree -- I agree with the President who says the new law carries a great amount of risk with the core values that we all care about are breached."
The audacity of our members of Congress standing with the President of Mexico over their own citizens. That is absolutely unforgiveable. Especially when you consider what an utter hypocrite this Mexican president is. Amnesty International has well documented the abuse of illegal immigrants in Mexico. Especially when you consider the penalties under official Mexican law. We looked it up: Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and attempt to re-enter can be imprisoned for 10 years. Visa violators can be sentenced to six-year terms. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals. In the United States, illegal immigrants find work, they get free health-care and free education. They are treated with dignity.
