Lou Dobbs: Fire ICE's Morton Now

On Lou's Radar

Dobbs: Fire ICE's Morton Now

May-21-2010

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement's mission is to "vigilantly enforce" our nation's immigration laws. So why is the head of ICE saying they may not process illegal immigrants referred to them from Arizona?

If you want to know what type of government we have in place these days, look no further than John Morton. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement said that Arizona's new law targeting illegal immigration is not "good government." The best way to reduce illegal immigration is through a comprehensive federal approach, not a patchwork of state laws, he said. "I don't think the Arizona law, or laws like it, are the solution," Morton said.

As such, Morton said his agency will not necessarily process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona officials. How does that aquare up with ICE's mission? It says it right there on the website: ICE's mission "is to protect the security of the American people and homeland by vigilantly enforcing the nation's immigration and customs laws."

Lou, as you might expect, was not happy to hear this. And he wants Morton fired:

It's absolutely despicable, and it's unbecoming of this nation. Morton needs to be fired, and he needs to be fired now.
