On Obama’s ‘Trip to the Center,’ He Stumbles Over Planned Parenthood

In an interview with an NBC affiliate in Richmond, VA, President Obama responded to the recent vote to defund Planned Parenthood after a flood of videos exposed illegal activities taking place at their clinics including exhibiting a willingness to support sex trafficking of minors, secret abortions for minors, and giving “pimp” discounts.
“I think sometimes these issues get manufactured,” [Obama] said “they get a lot of attention in the blogosphere.”
It’s not particularly surprising that Obama would defend Planned Parenthood. Obama is arguably the most pro-abortion president in American History. As a state Senator in Illinois, he continually stalled legislation that would have prevented doctors from killing babies outside of the womb based only on the “mother’s” desire to not be “punished” by having children.
In light of the videos, Obama was quoted by NBC as saying:
“You know my bottom line is I think that Planned Parenthood in the past has done good work. If there was a specific problem at this center, it should be addressed, but we shouldn’t get so distracted with some of these issues.”
“Good work” is of course relative to your understanding of the word “good,” however the “work” speaks for itself.
In 2001, there were 1,291,000 abortions performed in the United States of which Planned Parenthood performed 16.5% (214,026). As of 2008, the Guttmacher Institute reported that abortions nationwide were down to 1,212,400. A modest decrease of roughly 6%.
In spite of that decrease, Planned Parenthood performed 324,008 abortions in 2008 to increase their share to 26.72% which is a whopping increase in total abortions of 52.1% from their 2001 numbers.
And these numbers are not disputed. Planned Parenthood publishes their annual report each year touting the fact that only 3% of their services are abortions while conveniently omitting the fact that they currently perform 1 out of every 4 abortions in the United States. One would assume that Planned Parenthood would agree to trust Guttmacher’s abortion statistics given all they’ve done together.
As the pundits and television commentators shower the president with praise for doing what is the smart and Clintonian strategy by wooing the “independent voter,” we should be reminded that, much as it was during the campaign, he can’t help but reveal who he is as well as what his agenda will be. He’s telling America exactly what he thinks: taxpayer funded abortion on demand offered throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy is part of his vision for America. Planned Parenthood is a willing and able partner in this vision and has done “good work” which should cause us to ignore their willingness to assist child sex rings in the hopes of scoring a few abortions.
Obama is not taking a trip to the center. He’s just taking America for a ride
