President Obama Kicks Off Election 2010

President Obama has initiated the 2010 Election Season.  Here is an article from Lou Dobbs' site:

Pres. Obama Kicks Off Vote 2010

April 26, 2010

It's always about group and identity politics to President Obama. And in his new kickoff video for the 2010 midterms, Our (supposedly post-partisan) Supreme Leader plays to select groups rather than all Americans.

The focus of the Democratic National Committee's $50 million plan for the 2010 midterms is persuading the nearly 15 million people who voted for the first time in 2008 to return to the polls this fall. Although such voters historically do not cast ballots in midterm elections, party leaders think their participation this year could help lift Democrats to victory in many of these close contests. But it sounds an awful lot like President Obama wants to be the president of those of you who agree with him, not the president of ALL Americans.

President Obama in this kickoff video said: "It will be up to each of you to make sure that the young people, African Americans, Latinos, and women, who powered our victory in 2008 stand together once again. ... If you help us do that - if you help us make sure that first-time voters in 2008 make their voices heard again in November - then together we will deliver on the promise of change, hope, and prosperity for generations to come."

So no Asian-Americans need vote? How about gay people? That's the tricky part about playing group and identity politics - by including only some groups, you'll inevitably leave out others. How's that for Hope & Change? How's that for inclusion? How's that for being President of the UNITED States?

For a decidedly different take on the 2010 midterms, the Republican Governors Association has released a video called "Remember November," one that incorporates some fine filmmaking into a video you will probably agree with more than the one above!
