April 26--Today in History

1607--Colonists make landfall at Cape Henry, Virginia and will setle Jamstown.

1865--General Joseph E. Johnston surrenders his army at Bennet Place, North Carolina, ending the War Between the States.  However, the C.S.S. Shenandoah still roams the waves and will circumnavigate the world before surrendering.

1865--John Wilkes Boothe is killed by Union cavalrymen.

1986--The reactor at Chernobyl, Ukraine fails spectacularly, spreading radiation over Eurasia.  The reactors encasement is even now in danger of failing, and the Ukrainians are asking for aid to repair it.
