From Alliance Defense Fund and Family Research Council:
And Then There Was Nun
Last week, we reported that three major Catholic hospitals in Scranton, Pennsylvania, are selling off their facilities despite being on solid financial ground. At that time, Mercy Health Partners CEO Kevin Cook made it clear that President Obama's new health care law, also known as Obamacare, played a role in the decision to close. Almost immediately, however, Mercy Health Partners seemed to be backing away from their claim. According to Jeffery Lord in the American Spectator, the backtracking is due to Sister Carol Keehan, president of Catholic Health Association. Sister Keehan has endorsed Obamacare. She gave political cover for faux-life Democrats to vote for the largest expansion of abortion funding in history. Sister Keehan's endorsement was purely political -- as she had previously played little part in the health care debate.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is the only organization in the debate authorized to speak for the Catholic Church. The Bishops adamantly opposed the health care legislation once they discovered it would lead to taxpayer funding of abortions. For this work, the Obama Administration and its cohorts have repeatedly insinuated that the USCCB, FRC, and others are lying. This charge comes on the heels of the discovery that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius quietly tried to change one of her speeches online once it was discovered she was lying about Obamcare's detrimental affect on Medicare. There should be little doubt over who is telling the truth in this debate
