Politics has become a magnet for subversives, saboteuers and American-haters. Imagine, a passenger on the plane of the "underwear bomber," who has been jailed for life for trying to blow up an international flight on Christmas Day 2009, blamed the US government for the Christmas day bomber, despite the bomber's proudly stated desire to commit martyrdom for his Islamic faith. Passenger Kurt Haskell, like a 911 truther, blamed the US government for the Christmas underwear bomber and now is running for Congress. The US Congress, increasingly the repository of cheats, creeps, crooks, dastards, incorrigibles, lowlifes, maggots, miscreants, rascals, reprobates, scalawags, thieves, villains, wretches .....

Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was on a suicide mission for al Qaeda when he attempted to detonate a bomb in his underpants as the plane, en route from Amsterdam, approached Detroit. The mandatory punishment had never been in doubt after he surprised the courtroom and pleaded guilty to all charges on the second day of his trial in October.
Abdulmutallab, 25, the well-educated son of a wealthy banker, sat with his hands folded under his chin, leaning back in his chair as the sentence was announced.
During his trial he said the bomb in his underwear was a 'blessed weapon' to avenge poorly treated Muslims around the world.
Abdulmutallab talked freely to the FBI about his desire to commit martyrdom for his Islamic faith.
In 2009, months before the attack, he travelled to Yemen to see Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born cleric and one of the best-known al Qaeda figures, according to the government. He told investigators that his mission was approved after a three-day visit with his mentor (Daily Mail)

Newport lawyer will run in 7th District LenConnect (hat tip Diane)
NEWPORT, Mich. —
Newport attorney Kurt Haskell has announced he will seek the Democratic nomination for the 7th District congressional seat now held by Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton.
Haskell, 41, has not previously run for or held elective office. He has begun collecting nominating petition signatures and expects to have enough signatures to qualify in a week, Haskell said Wednesday.
Haskell, who shares a law practice with his wife, Lori Haskell, said he has been a lifelong registered Democrat but has not been active in party politics.
He is running to make “positive change,” Haskell said.
“I think we just really need some change in the federal government,” Haskell said. “I hope we can make the federal government more open and honest.”
Haskell was on Northwest Flight 253 when it was attacked by the so-called “underwear bomber,” Umar Farouk Abdulmutal- lab, on Christmas Day 2009 as it approached Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Haskell has gained some attention with his claim that the bombing was set up by the U.S. government with an intentionally defective bomb.
His convictions about that event are “definitely part” of why he is running, Haskell said.
“I’ve been quite outspoken and critical of the government due to that case,” Haskell said.
Newport, about five miles north of Monroe, was formerly in the 15th Congressional District, represented by John Dingell, D-Dearborn, but because of redistricting that takes effect this election cycle, Haskell is now a resident of the 7th District.

Haskell appears in multiple videotaped interviews, accessible on the Internet, for the radio program InfoWars telling his story about Flight 253. In those interviews, Haskell says that at the airport in Amsterdam, he witnessed a man with Abdulmutallab tell an attendant Abdulmutallab did not have a passport, but helped Abdulmutallab be allowed to get on the plane.
Haskell also says that a second man was handcuffed and led away at Metro Airport after the bombing attempt. Some other witnesses also said another man was put in handcuffs while passengers waited to be interviewed, according to news reports.
In one of the interviews for InfoWars, posted Feb. 25 to YouTube, Haskell says that he and his wife intend to leave the United States by the end of 2013. Asked about that Wednesday, Haskell said he changed his mind because of the opportunity to run for Congress opened up by redistricting.
“That’s why I’m giving it a shot,” he said, describing the opportunity as “fate.”
In the same interview, Haskell says he doesn’t think voting for new government officials will solve the country’s problems.
