A professional Marxist vs an amateur politician for senator

While Democrats have gleefully decided that Delaware's Tea Party and now Republican senatorial candidate, Christine O'Donnell, is too eccentric, too questionable to be elected statewide they've been silent about their own candidate, Chris Coons.



As Politico has pointed out he's a far left, professional politician, a Delaware county executive, whose transformation from conservative to liberal began in college when he wrote an article for his college paper calling himself a "bearded Marxist."





Coons, then 21 years old and about to graduate from Amherst College, chronicled his transformation from a sheltered, conservative-minded college student who had worked for former GOP Delaware Sen. William Roth and had campaigned for Ronald Reagan in 1980 into a cynical young adult who was distrustful of American power and willing to question the American notion of free enterprise.

"[I]t is only too easy to return from Africa glad to be American and smugly thankful for our wealth and freedom," added Coons. "Instead, Amherst had taught me to question, so in turn I questioned Amherst, and America."





Apparently this political philosophy is not considered a problem.



So a "bearded Marxist" versus a woman who has defaulted on her mortgage and had some other problems. Too bad O'Donnell didn't drunkenly drive her car off a bridge and swim away, leaving her passenger to die as a long term, multi elected recently deceased senator did. Or register her yacht in another state to avoid home state taxes. Or praise Marxism.





Then Delaware would have a real contest.





Delaware, a state where registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans, has a clear choice--the outcome should be interesting.
