The Most Obnoxious Dem in Congress in Trouble
Richard Baehr
Alan Grayson is in real trouble in Florida. Sean Trende on RCP:
The latest Sunshine State/VSS poll shows controversial Democratic incumbent Alan Grayson trailing former state Senator Dan Webster by seven points, 43 percent to 36 percent. A majority of respondents -- 51 percent -- disapprove of the job that Grayson is doing. Independents have an unfavorable view of him as well, by a 36/47 margin.
The single most obnoxious House member may just be too embarrassing for normal people in his district. His utterly disgraceful ad taking out of context and distorting 180 degrees the views of his opponent about women has even cost him the support of MSNBC host Contessa Brewer. Ed Morrissey on Hot Air:
Contessa Brewer engages Grayson on hisdisgraceful, dishonest "Taliban Dan" smear and - to her credit - refuses to let him off the hook for it. At one point, Grayson accuses Brewer of distracting attention from women's issues, but Brewer fires back and tells Grayson that he approved the ad and its own off-message smears and out-of-context quotes. If Grayson was serious about the issues, Brewer asks, why not just stick to the issues rather than issue an ad rated "false" by Factcheck?
Grayson made a decent sized fortune with phone company IDT, and can afford unlimited advertising, including the false smearing of his opponent, now generating blowback. His district leans GOP, but has gotten more Democratic as many Puerto Ricans have moved in, as they have all over the Orlando area.
