Senate Minority Leader McConnell Asks Murkowski Not To Run As Write-In

McConnell Says "Lisa, Don’t Run"

Two days before Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R.-Alaska) is scheduled to announce whether she plans to pursue a write-in campaign for the seat to which she lost renomination, the leader of Senate Republicans told Human Events he has urged her not to do it.



Referring to the published reports that Murkowski is mulling a write-in campaign after losing the GOP primary to conservative insurgent Joe Miller, Human Events asked Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) if he thought she would make the race.



“I hope she doesn’t,” McConnell replied without hesitation.



Asked if he and other colleagues in the Senate GOP Conference have talked to the moderate Murkowski about ending any effort to deny Miller votes in the fall campaign against Democrat Scott McAdams, the minority leader said, “Yes, we all have” and that if she does go the write-in route, “we’re all going to support Miller, anyway.”



McConnell spoke shortly after weighing in with a strong statement of support for Delaware’s Senate GOP nominee Christine



O’Donnell, on the morning after she won the primary for the seat once held by Joe Biden.
